The University of Phayao organized a project review meeting to revisit its strategic development plans and align them with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from April 2 to 5, 2022, at Aksorn Rayong, The Vitality Collection, Klaeng District, Rayong Province. The purpose of the meeting was to provide principles and guidelines for driving the development of the University of Phayao during the fiscal years 2023 to 2027 to achieve the university's vision, as well as to support the university's participation in the THE Impact Rankings and the UI Green Metric World University Ranking.
The event was led by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongsabangpo, the university president, who honored the opening of the meeting on revisiting the strategic plan and its alignment with the SDGs. The session featured a lecture by Associate Professor Dr. Thitirath Chiewsuwan, the Vice President for Policy and Planning, on how to connect the strategic development plans of the university, faculties, and units with the SDGs.
Activities included a knowledge exchange on aligning the strategic development plans of the university with the SDGs, led by Associate Professor Dr. Paninthara Theeranont and Assistant Professor Dr. Chattip Chaiyachak. There was also feedback on the university rankings, specifically the THE Impact Rankings, presented by Professor Dr. Samer Thanoy, the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
Following the discussions, the executive team, led by Dr. Supakorn Pongsabangpo, participated in a CSR activity, releasing marine animals under the campaign "From the Mountains to the Sea." This activity was part of the strategic plan review and the alignment with the SDGs, supported by the Rayong Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center of the Department of Fisheries. The event included the release of 1,500 sea bass and 2,000 clams to enhance marine life as a food source for humans. Additionally, there was collaboration with the Marine Conservation Center and the Eastern Gulf of Thailand Marine Research and Development Center to release a 25-30 year-old mother turtle back into nature, aimed at conservation and increasing opportunities for breeding and nesting.
The university received contributions from key individuals, including Mr. Witanwat Sawat-chuto, a distinguished member of the university council and former Chief Technology and Engineering Officer of PTT, and Mr. Surachai Leepoolsuk, the Director of the Eastern Economic Corridor Innovation Project at PTT, who provided lectures and insights. Participants also visited the surrounding areas of Wang Chan Valley and listened to presentations from Professor Dr. Jamrat Limtrakool, the president of Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, as well as a study visit at VISTEC. Furthermore, they toured the medical cannabis cultivation facility of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization and engaged in discussions with Dr. Suporn Ingudomnuakul, the director of the Herbal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.
The project review meeting on strategic development plans and alignment with the SDGs emphasized a participatory process of "integration" to foster collaboration in achieving consensus on policies, objectives, and directions for the university's development, aiming to fulfill its vision.
